Miranda Lambert’s Muttnation Foundation Donates Nearly $200,000 To Shelters In All 50 States

Miranda’s Muttnation Foundation just donated nearly $200k to animal shelters across the nation.

Miranda Lambert’s foundation hand-picked at least one shelter from each state based on criteria like high adoption rates, volunteerism and fiscal responsibility.  Each shelter received $3-5,000 from the Foundation.  In total, The MuttNation Foundation donated $189,000 to shelters across the US.

Locally, they selected the Mississippi Animal Rescue League and Animal Rescue New Orleans as deserving recipients.

The next time you’re looking for a new animal companion, stop by the Natchez-Adams County Animal Shelter and meet their adoptable animals, or stop by the shelter near you.  Don’t shop, adopt!

Live in Natchez, Mississippi?  Take this survey and let the Park And Recreation committee know what you’d like to see accomplished.  New bathrooms at Duncan Park?  A splash pool on the Bluff?  Better access for people with special needs?  Your thoughts and opinions count!

Elvis Presley is running for Congress in Arkansas.  He should run for Governor of Florida instead.

How high’s the water mama?  The National Weather Service has issued Flood Warnings locally for the Mississippi, Red, and Ouachita Rivers.

And Happy Birthday to Johnny Cash, born on this date in 1932.  He is one of only a handful of artists to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, the Country Hall Of Fame, and the Gospel Hall Of Fame.

Elvis Is Running For Congress In Arkansas

OK, not THE Elvis Presley

Because he’d be a zombie that escaped from his Graceland tomb, which would be pretty cool too.  Professional Elvis impersonator who legally changed his name to “Elvis D Presley” just filed papers to run as the Libertarian nominee in one of Arkansas’s House districts.

This isn’t the first time that Elvis D Presley has been in the political arena.  He has also run for Governor, land commissioner, and the Arkansas state Legislature.  The Libertarian Party picks their nominees this weekend and i SO HOPE they pick Elvis D Presley.  First, they might actually win an election for once, and second, I’ll be all over that sweet campaign merchandise!  I’ll stick an “Elvis Presley For Congress” sign in my front yard, forever!

This fine song below was his campaign song during his gubernatorial campaign a few years ago.

Elvis for Congress!

How many selfies a day is too many?  Experts say if you take more than 50 a day, you have a problem called “selfitis.”

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle and Yazoo City native Fletcher Cox credits his Mississippi upbringing for his success in football and in life. You sir, just found a new fan.

I’m never quite sure how this starts, but Carrie Underwood & husband Mike Fisher once again have to shoot down some ugly divorce rumors.  Mike throws a mean body check in real life, but online, he responds to the ugliness with love.

One of my new favorite verses because I need this reminder daily!

In Case You Missed It:

– The very talented and fun country group Southern Halo stopped by for an interview and in-studio performance.  They are a super traditional country group, and you really hear those Mississippi Delta roots in their music.

– The Natchez Board of Aldermen approved funds to build a monument dedicated to the Parchman Ordeal.  An incident largely ignored by history, it was one of the most egregious treatment of African-American civil rights workers from the 1960s.  First time you’ve heard of it?  Learn more.

– New Orleans Saints & Pelicans owner Tom Benson is hospitalized with flu symptoms.  Sending positive thoughts and healing vibes his way.

Kelsea Ballerini dropped a new single from her sophomore album Unapologetically.  I love the first line:  “I hate Shakespeare and Gosling and cakes with white frosting.”  Country radio so wanted Kelsea to be the “next” Taylor Swift, which is just such an unrealistic expectation to place on any new singer.  I’m glad to hear Kelsea finding her groove as an artist.

– Right before I got off the air, Cole Swindell released a new single from his next album.  It’s called “Break Up In The End” and it definitely has some serious feels.

In-studio Interview With Southern Halo

My interview with Southern Halo

Super excited to finally get to interview Natalia, Hannah and Christina from the group Southern Halo.  They’re from the Mississippi Delta, and you can really hear that history and tradition come through in their music. Check them out and buy some new merch on their website!  Follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram.

The crowd of radio programmers and music industry representatives gave the Abilene, Texas native a warm welcome back.  Eric Paslay co-wrote with Chris DeStefano (“That’s My Kind of Night,” “Something in the Water,” “Don’t Ya”) and singer-songwriter Morgan Evans.

Eric says:

“It all points back to your youth, and it’s about the feeling of it of ‘shooting stars lighting up the boulevard,’ like you’re just young enough to get away with anything almost…It’s that summer love; it’s that first time rush. And I hope I live that way, and I hope everyone who hears this song gets that feeling and makes ‘em want to feel young forever every time they do something in their life and experience it for the first time or the hundredth time.”

Eric is set to headline the 21st Annual JDRF Promise Gala: A Country Side of a Cure on Saturday (February 24th). The event raises money and awareness for Juvenile Diabetes and the JDRF, which is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.
